Review: Rough Edges by Kimberly Krey

Rough Edges: Allie's Story, A Companion to the Sweet Montana Bride Series (Second Chances Book 1) by Kimberly Krey
Paperback, 322 pages
Published January 23rd 2015 by Candle House Publishing
Source: eBooks for review--I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
Description: Divorced mother, Allie Emerson, never imagined she’d be raising two teenage girls on her own. Between parenting and paying the bills, she hasn’t even thought about meeting a man. That changes once she hears local carpenter, Braden Fox, is in need of a secretary. Back in high school, Allie had done all she could to deny the sparks burning between her and Braden; but would the chemistry still be there after all this time?

Braden has heard all about what Terrance did to Allie and the girls, has been planning to stop by and see how she’s getting along, but Allie beats him to it by showing up at his shop in search of a job. Her unexpected visit reignites the old flame Braden used to torch for her; trouble is, old feelings of resentment return as well. Allie did choose Terrance over him, after all. And as much as Braden wants Allie in his life, he’s not sure he can open his heart to her again.

With this second chance at romance, will the bumps in their relationship be too much to get over,
or will this carpenter learn to smooth out the past?

My Review: I'm in love! Kimberly Krey has a magical way of weaving a tale of trials, second chances, and romance. Phew! The romance left me completely swooning.
Allie is a divorced mom. She's been given a rough hand in life, but doesn't let it get her down. She does whatever it takes to move on and make a good life for herself and her girls. It's all she can do to make ends meet and when she hears that an old friend and local carpenter may be in need of a secretary, she's there trying to get the position. Little did she know, the chemistry that once existed between them, years ago, is hotter than ever.
Braden is a never-been-married bachelor who's been burned a few too many times--by Allie. He's not interested in getting his heart trampled yet again by his long-time crush. He backed way off during Allie's marriage to his friend, but now she's free game. He's so sweet and is learning to fight for what he wants.
I'm a sucker for a second chance romance and this one was perfect for my mood. I loved Allie's daughters and fell for Braden's charms right along with Allie. "If anticipation alone could kill a person, Allie might have died in that moment." Rough Edges is a fantastic combination of anticipation and action. I can't wait for more!
Content: Moderately clean romance (talk of cheating, kissing, making out, fade to black between married couple); mild language; no violence; very mild religious elements. Clean for an older reader!
